Beautiful Lance, as usual.
I do miss the guitar shaped logo, are you going away from that?

Lance, great job. And just a great choice for the bindings... they really set things off nicely. What are they?

Looks great Lance. I like the bindings too. Are they mahogany?

Thanks Fellas,

Tim, im not going away from the logo, just offering it as an option in addition to my name logo.

Steve, the bindings are lightly flamed Koa, got them from Brian Hawkins Beachtonewoods,

Matt, yupper, no leveling or buffing, this is another one Tony Ferguson is doing for me, we were going to do a black stain in the build coats, he does that for Del Langangs and it looks great, but after seeing these pictures I opted out, as the Indian is dark enough.

Next on the finishing list for Tony from me is a 12 fret dreadnought Black acacia/Carpithain, and an Italian Ziricote L1GP, both due to finish up in the next month or so. Gonna keep Tony hopping!

Lance,

So these photos are ones that Tony took??? Does that mean that he does the level and buff too?

How thick does that finish end up when it done? I think you said you rout out the areas for the bridge and fingerboard, so you should have a good indicator on thickness there ....

By the way, it looks awesome, very nice and clean work.

Looks great, Lance. You've shown that binding doesn't need to have super flame to look good. Very tasteful.

That looks awesome Lance! That SJ shape looks like the same outline as the one in plans I just got. Is it the same?

John O[/QUOTE]

Although I can't speak for Tony or Lance I can shed some light on my (McFaddens) Urethane thickness. I have been spraying 6 "wet" coats. I spray 3 coats one day, wait 2 days, level sand and spray 3 final wet coats that day. Wait 7 days, sand and buff.

The total (unsanded & unleveled) thickness of 6 coats is .009" - .010". The final (leveled, sanded & buffed) thickness, measured at the bridge location is .002" - .003" for my application.

John - Yes Tony will level and buff it too -
Ill be gluing down the bridge to an Om I just completed soon, Tony finished it as well, ill try to remember to get a measurement before I glue it down. I can tell you that Tony is concerned with more than just the final thickness, He also measures total added weight to the guitar, he has a limit of lacquer weight that he will allow. The Om looks like glass and when I removed the lacquer under the fretboard extension area, although I didn't measure it, it was thinner than I personally have ever done it.

I'd be happy if mine looked that nice AFTER leveling and buffing! So you only spray 6 coats? I feel like I spray 12, and leveling is still a pain sometimes. I'm using McFadden's nitro...(so I hope I never drop a guitar! ). Nice work again Lance!

I have measured Tony's finish quite a few times. It is always very thin. It
ha ranged from .003-.006. Not too shabby!

Larry:
Urethane builds much faster than Nitro so it requires less coats. I typically use 9-11 coats of nitro on the sides and back and 6 on the top (level sanding between each coat).

Lance: Did you notice a hint of "bluish cast" on the dark body while viewing it in an angled light? I noticed some in mine and when I conatcted McFaddens they suggested tinting it a bit. I stripped (actually sanded) the coat off and then tinted the Urethane and the blue vanished.

Is urethane more friendly to use than nitro? I guess I always associate the word with Minwax Polyurethane and the like!
